Tower Hamlets Night Shelter

Christ Church and St Luke’s church join together to contributing to the GrowTH  Tower Hamlets Night Shelter.  Together they host  Monday evenings ( 6- 10 pm),  from October to May. Men and women from all walks of life come to the project for help. We provide an evening meal  at St Anne’s Limehouse in a Parish team.

The parish team (the picture below shows some past volunteers) help by setting up the living space, cooking dinner (for 20 people approx ): preparing and serving tea, coffee, dessert as well as providing other help e.g. hair cutting, and general socialising. In the last season several  guests  were allocated with permanent homes,  found a new jobs, were referred to work training schemes and were taking language courses to help them with their path.

GrowTH is an initiative by local churches in Tower Hamlets to respond to homelessness in the local community. The project provides emergency night shelter which provides both immediate shelter for homeless men and women and assistance in securing more permanent longer-term accommodation. The night shelter operates for seven months of the year and guests are welcomed from the local area without discrimination or favour.

GrowTH provides supported housing for formerly homeless men and are developing social enterprises to assist guests towards mainstream employment. GrowTH is a holistic response to homelessness addressing both practical and spiritual needs, so the guests are given the opportunity to engage with the Christian faith if they so wish.’
